Kasey Campos, BS

Kasey is a Research Associate who started in the Biomarker Core Lab at the San Francisco VA Medical Center in 2021. She is currently managing many of the administrative tasks necessary to operate the Biomarker Core.

A Chicago native, Kasey obtained her undergraduate degree in Biology at Loyola University Chicago. After going fully remote her final 3 semesters of college due to the COVID-19 pandemic, much of Kasey’s undergraduate research focused on women’s health through the lens of evolutionary medicine. After graduating, Kasey relocated to San Francisco and joined Dr. Shlipak and the KHRC team to aid in the discovery of novel biomarkers for early detection of kidney disease utilizing the MSD multiplex platform, the Siemens BNII clinical analyzer and other methods.

In addition to working with Dr. Shlipak, Kasey also joined the MACS/WIHS Combine Cohort Study (MWCCS), headed by Dr. Tien at the San Francisco VA, which aims to understand the impact of chronic health conditions on those living with HIV. Specifically at the Biomarker Core, Kasey is helping identify biomarkers which demonstrate the increased risk of chronic diseases on those impacted by HIV, utilizing the MSD multiplex platform, the Thermo Fisher Indiko Plus Clinical Chemical Analyzer and other technologies.

When she’s not at work, you’ll likely find Kasey reading, listening to Taylor Swift, at the dog park or spending time with her family and friends. In the future, Kasey hopes to pursue a graduate degree which will help her further her career in Research.
