Dr. Chi Chu awarded K12 Award!

Dr. Chi Chu was recently awarded a K12 award from NIH/AHRQ. This was through the UCSF Learning Health System K12 Career   Development Program. The overall goal of this project, "Targeted Automated Nephrology e-Consultation for Diabetic Kidney   Disease", is to design a proactive intervention of targeted nephrology e-consultation which leverages the electronic health record to   identify patients with diabetic kidney disease who might benefit from nephrology expertise, with the goal of extending subspecialty   expertise in collaboration with primary care to reach a broader population than would be possible with a traditional, in-person visit     model. The specific aims of this project are 1) to conduct semi-structured interviews of primary care clinicians, patients, and   nephrologists to understand the most helpful elements of a proactive e-consultation intervention; and 2) to use a microsimulation   modeling approach to determine the best strategies for targeting proactive consultations for optimizing impact and equity based on   existing practice patterns and resource limitations in a local setting.
